WWX17 Origins: A Movement Born of Grief, Built for Freed began not as an initiative, but as a refusal to let grief have the final word. In October 1990, Wesley Pearce Brown was born with Potter’s Syndrome—his life, though brief, left an eternal imprint. He lived for 23 minutes. In May 2012, Waymond Patrick Brown II died suddenly of cardiac arrest at age 23. Two sons. Two losses. Two parents who chose to build forward.
Rather than remain buried in the sands of sorrow, Cynthia and Waymond Brown Sr. founded WayWesX17 in 2015—a grief-informed, justice-rooted movement architecture designed to transform pain into purpose. The name itself is a living memorial
Way for Waymond II, Wes for Wesley Pearce, X for Kristopher Xavier, the living thread of the family’s story, 17 for the year Cynthia earned her Master of Social Work from USC
WWX17 is more than a nonprofit. It is a system of care, a transmission of legacy, and a blueprint for freedom. Through annual events: Baby Love, Hot Time in the City, Soul-2-Soul, and The WWX17 Homeless Project Give-Away, the movement meets immediate needs first—then builds toward long-term transformation.
Each event is designed to dismantle systemic barriers and restore dignity through:
Empowerment. Access. Education. Reintegration
WWX17 exists to address the intergenerational trauma of homelessness—by building self-esteem, health, literacy, and strategic thinking. Its mission is clear: to create a new generation of freedom, rooted in memory and carried forward by love.
🟦 Family Dedication
This movement carries the memory of those we lost—and the love of those who remain.
To Waymond Brown Sr.:
Your quiet strength, enduring love, and shared grief are woven into every pillar of WWX17. You carry the Blueprint with grace, and this movement honors your presence in every step forward.
To Kristopher Xavier Brown:
You are the living thread of this legacy. Your name is etched into the heart of WWX17—not just as an initial, but as a promise. This movement is built for your generation, and carried by your light.
